Clay Shooting: Our First Session of 2026 at Gallatin Sporting Clays

A new year always brings a certain kind of energy, and this one was no different. Our first session of 2026 with Fowl Frontier is officially in the books, and it was everything we hoped the season opener would be. Twenty students showed up ready to go, our coaches were glad to be back out on the course, and the Gallatin Sporting Clays range near Three Forks, Montana gave us the perfect backdrop to kick things off.

We got started under those wide-open Montana skies, with the valley stretching out below and the smell of fresh air and gun oil in the morning. There's nothing quite like that first day back — a mix of rust to shake off, new faces to meet, and returning students eager to pick up where they left off. With safety gear on and shotguns in hand, the group settled in quickly and got down to work.

Throughout the morning, students rotated through the stations, and it didn't take long for the confidence to start building. Some clays flew straight out and away, others came fast and low, and every presentation was a chance to reset, read the target, and take a clean shot. Watching a student connect on a bird they'd been chasing all morning never gets old, and there was plenty of that to go around.

For our coaches, the first session is always a favorite. It's a chance to see how far returning students have come, to help the newer ones find their footing, and to set the tone for the year ahead. The focus on fundamentals — stance, timing, gun handling, and above all safety — is what turns a good day on the range into real, lasting skill.

More than anything, today was about laying the groundwork. This is just the beginning of the 2026 season, and days like this are where the muscle memory, the discipline, and the good habits start to take root. Twenty students walked off the course a little sharper than they walked on, and that's exactly the point.
